Industry: Healthcare

  • General Practitioners
  • Practice Managers
  • Patients
Helix is an all-in-one, cloud-based clinical and practice management platform for General Practice doctors' offices.

Created by Medical Director, the company behind one of Australia's most popular medical software enterprises, it represents a huge step into the future of health care and wellness, with a focus on connectivity, patient engagement, and data-driven insights.

The Helix design team was built from the ground up, with the goal of shifting the company toward a design- and product-led climate.  We had a rare opportunity to completely reimagine a conventional legacy product, and launch it into a modern future.

As a member of the team, I worked to evangelize design thinking and processes by actively promoting collaboration and creative problem-solving throughout the organization.

This included facilitating multidisciplinary ideation workshops, outreach and exploration of customer behaviour, finding ways to incorporate volumes of knowledge into smart feature designs, and creating funky promotional booths for conferences.

Here are a few case studies of my work on Helix

2021: A GP Odyssey
A journey mapping workshop kicked off a storytelling session, spawning a 3-minute immersive VR experience.

Created in collaboration with Sydney-based creative studio,
VANDAL.

Patient Timelines
An average GP has hundreds of patients, and only a short time with each.

How can we use data to communicate the patient's identity and history efficiently, and provide the insight needed to diagnose and treat a patient as they deserve?

Self-building Care Plans
A comprehensive program of care keeps chronically-ill patients on track, but can be inherently complex.

How can we group related components to make a plan easy to compile, simple to follow, and relevant for every person who will use it?

Proactive Drug Warnings
With a wealth of knowledge at our disposal, can we teach a system to be a detective's sidekick?

An intelligent system that uses semantic parsing to call out drug side effects when a patient manifests them.
